Re: low octane?

Low octane gas is not as likely a culprit as intermittent spark. It could be one plug going bad (arcing) or the coil or the switch box not sending a good signal to the coil. This will probably be hard to trace, unless you're pretty good with electrical stuff (which I am not!).

Good luck!

Could be some water in your gas.
Only a guess because I've had the same problem
(Evinrude also) and it has seemed to clear up considerably after removing water from my tank

Under the water muffs ,try tapping on electrical parts with a plastic handle of a large screw driver. After your engine has run a few minutes at idle ,shut down and inspect plugs to see if they're uniformly wet with gas as you may have a sticking carb. You best get this problem solved as it can lead to a disasterous outcome. You may try a can of carb. cleaner while running

If your "skip" becomes more evident and mechanical in nature, suspect the shift dogs in the lower unit.

It can manifest itself as if the motor is periodically hitting and object at speed. Enough to make the whole engine jerk once every few seconds when real bad.
