Lost plug on Mercruiser outdrive ... problem?

Hello,

I ran across this site and hoped somebody here might be able to answer a question for me. I have a 2002 Bayliner Capri 1950 bowrider (I believe it has a 3.0L Mercruiser engine and an Alpha outdrive?). I just noticed that there is a plug missing on the top, flat part of the outdrive unit (it's on the horizontal part, directly above the prop). It appears that it may have been dinged and the hole is somewhat bent also. I believe it may have been like that the last few times I used the boat, but I'm uncertain. Is that missing plug anything that I should be concerned about? I am thinking of replacing it myself and repairing the hole to make the plug fit because it doesn't seem like it should be a big deal. But I don't know if that may be a more critical area than I think, since I'm not very familiar with boats. I don't want to spend a fortune having somebody else repair it if it's not a big deal, but at the same time, I don't want to skimp and cause myself more problems down the road. Also, should I be concerned that the plug may have been missing and lake water may have gotten in there the last couple of times out? Should I be getting some kind of service done to avoid potential problems? Or is it even a big deal if that plug is there at all?

I will attach a pic that appears to be of a similar outdrive to mine showing where the plug is missing in case that helps.

Sorry about the long question, but hoping I can get some direction before deciding what to do.

Nope, that hole is the access for the allen screw that holds on the trim tab/sacrificial anode(zinc).....;)

Ayuh,...

That's just a plastic trim cap...

I'd just as soon bet that there are more of them missing, than are where they belong...

Awesome ... thanks for the quick answer, guys. That puts my mind at ease ... was worried about trying to get it fixed up before taking it out next.
