I have a problem someone may be able to help me with. Both my wife and daughter loose their keys somewhere in the house at least once a week. The discovery is always made as their going out the door. Whenever it happens, it's shear panic time - screaming, crying, and all. Anybody else have to go through this? Any suggestions?

Re: Lost Keys

Put a set of cup hooks in one spot and develop a habit of using it for the keys. If they are lost there is only one person at fault.... who failed to hang them up..

What's that old saying... Lack of prior planning on your part does not constute an emergency on my part.... or something like that.

Re: Lost Keys

Walk through the door and drop the keys on the mat. There always there as you step out the door

Re: Lost Keys

Isn't there a "Clapper" or something like it for lost keys?

Do a search on the internet.

I found THIS

Re: Lost Keys

What Bob said is the best, IMO.
Come in and hang them up.
Just make it somewhere that they have to pass after coming in the door.

I FINALLY trained my wife afer 25 years to put the keys on a hook. There are four hooks. I told her which one is hers. She hasn't figured that part out yet, but at least they are on the hook-somewhere.

I have NO sympathy for someone that perpetually misplaces their own stuff. You should tell them that. It's called-RESPONSIBILITY.

I never saw a woman that would go 10 ft. without thier purse. Tell them to put keys in thier purse or your gonna turn them over your knee and whip thier buT!. After 5 or 6 but! whipings they will always have thier keys in thier purse. Simple wasnt it. ;)

Re: Lost Keys

I have a hook for my keys. everything but the keys seem to get on the hooks.

And I lose my keys all the time. I always seem to find them, and it is always in the last place I look. If I could just learn to start the search there, I'd save a lot of time and aggrivation.

I have a set of hooks just inside the door.

In case of emergency I have a spare car key in my wallet and spare house keys in the car.

Now if I can just figure out how to get the garage door to automatically open when the power is out.

Re: Lost Keys

I have this thing called a pocket, I keep them there. Never had a problem that way.

I trained my wife to put hers in her purse. She used to just throw them wherever. A few 'tough love' lessons later, she was trained.

As we used to say in the Navy, PPPPPPP. Proper prior planning prevents pss poor performance. :)

In this household, ALL keys are to be hung on the key-rack-thing.
There are nasty words said if they are not there when you go to get them.
Having said that, no one leaves any key anywhere but on the rack. Been like that for years.
It's a housekeeping rule.
Cheers
Phillip

I always keep mine in my pocket till I am ready for bed. I feel wierd if their isnt keys in my pocket.

Wifey does pretty good about keeping hers in one place.

A couple of times her keys were locked in the car from the day before. She would use her keys to lock the house, then get in the car and put them in the glove box. I would use my keys to get back in the house and then I go to work the next day with her keys still locked in the car. Good thing we still have roadside assitance. :D

Ken

Re: Lost Keys

Maybe telling them that their inability to keep up with their keys is proof positive that women have inferior minds would do the trick. But then again, it may result in your awakening some night anatomically altered.

Hmmm...maybe not such a good idea. I'm afraid it's a no-win situation. ;)

Re: Lost Keys

Some great ideas and I have tried most of then for my wife. But some people (wives) are hopeless. Several years ago my wife could not find her car keys and I finally took mine off my key chain so she could leave for work. I had the day off and knew that sometime during the day I would run across them. When we bough a new refrigerator we placed the old one in the garage. Having the day off, I decided to mow the grass so the wife and I could have some time together the go fishing on Saturday morning. We keep the sodas and bottled water in the old frig in the garage. After about 45 minutes of mowing I wanted a cold drink of water. I go to the old frig and get a bottle of water and see her car keys. To this day she believes I made up (lied) about finding her keys in the frig. I can only assume when she got home the day before she had bought something that needed to go into the frig and put both the item and her keys in. I also found the TV remote in the new frig one time and that is why I won’t purchase a wireless keyboard and mouse for the home computer.

Re: Lost Keys

You guys don't trust anyone. If you leave em in the ingnition, they will be there when you need it. Unless someone needed your vehicle bad enough

As for the house, we lock all the front and side doors. Usually the back door with the large dog chain, water bowl, doggie mines, and large holes is left unlocked unless we go out of town.

I keep my keys on me all the time except on the night stand when I sleep. Wife puts hers on the clip of her phone pouch.

I can't wait until the day where all locks with retina scan are common thing. I rarely lost my keys but I can't stand them. How many of you guys have tried to unlock your house door in the dark while being drunk?
