I'm running a 79 Johnson 35 hp seahorse. At wide open throttle the main jet turns itself in tight. Is there supposed to be a jam nut on it? Tried lock tight and did the same thing.
I believe that model simply has a nylon retaining sleeve. The old type would in time allow the valve to turn. If this is the type you have, purchase a new improved "red" retainer part # 315232.
hello<br /> I think your talking about the idle air/fuel screw. the main jet is inside the fuel bowl and is supposed to be screwed in tight. do what joe reeves says, and buy a service manual so you can at least identify the parts and lessen the guess work .
You state that the main jet 'tightens' itself at WOT and you have tried Loctite. Just what do you mean by this? I mean, "How tight do you want it? This does not make sense to me.
Pinion.... I believe he's saying that the needle valve viberates and turns itself all the way in (tightens itself), rather than backing out to a point whereas it would fall off.
Thanks Joe. That does make sense, but I have always had items back out rather than tighten inward. That is why I could not grasp what Patman was saying I guess.
