My lower unit locked up on me some time ago, so I got a used one. The first time I tried putting the new one one, I didn't have that copper pipe that water flows into the block from lined up with the water pump and I bent the copper pipe a little. I got it back into decent looking shape with some plyers and got the unit on. Wouldn't ****... Dropped it, replaced the water pump entirre assembly, Wouldn't ****... Dropped it again, put a water hose directly onto the copper pipe (it didn't fit tight, lots of water didnt go up the pipe) and voila water comes out the pisser. Figured maybe something was stuck in the line so I put the unit back on and........WOULDNT ****!!! I'm about to lose it here. Dropping and putting that lower unit on by myself is no picnic.

I'm 99% sure I have the impeller and all installed correctly. Any ideas as to what it could be??? Thanks in advance for any help.

Not sure if I know what you are referring to. The copper pipe that goes up through the midsection is going into the pipe that comes off the water pump housing. Dont know anything about a grommet though???

What's the head temperature? Have you checked the tell tale line into the motor with a piece of weed eater string? Okay with water going in are you seeing it come out the exhaust?

water will flow through the block and out the pisser when i hold a hose up to the intake pipe going up the midsection so nothing is blocking th water up there... It's got to be that I did something wrong with the water pump. I guess the grommet boobie was referring to is part # 0314008? I didn't see anything like that when i took the old one out strange.

Another question, my water pump it came with an o ring. Does that go below the impeller or what? I got the sierra kit that comes with no instruction whatsoever.

Just saw the 2nd part of your question Bob and I'm nut sure about water coming out of the exhaust. Will take a look tomorrow when I try this again. What would that mean?

Just guessing, the o-ring on my kit went on top of the drive shaft (evinrude). It sounds like your impeller is not turning to pump the water up the tube. I would re-check the key that locks the impeller in place on the drive shaft and make sure the rubber gasket/ring, is on the bottom of the pump housing so your not loosing your ability to suck the water into the pump.

good luck,
