Looks like a ground wire.

I just picked up a 1998 Chris Craft 240 bowrider with Volvo Penta outdrive. It has been repowered and I came across what looks like a ground wire. Green wires with an uninsulated eyelet connector. It's currently dangling and not attach to a ground point. Any help?

Howdy.

Can't help you on being a ground or not. but it would be a good idea to find out why it's burned up and charred. Might be the reason it's disconnected.

Looks like a ground and judging from the size of the terminal end looks like it might bolt to the bell housing, But you should check it for voltage. the burned spot (from what I can see in your pic) looks like it might have been from it touching the exhaust, but that's just my guess, see where it will reach and check anything that in might touch along the way to see if there's any tell tale signs. Make sure you check it for voltage!

It's a bonding wire and was installed too close to the exhaust manifold.

Water cooled exhaust shouldn't burn up a wire like that.

Bonding wires aren't ground wires.
Was installed next to the manifold where it exits the head. I understand there is a difference in bonding and ground. Thank you.

Rather than quibble over definitions, your found where it should be connected? Or still looking?

"It appears that it was connected to the back of the cylinder head. Any concern with this?"

A bonding wire is a grounded wire but doesn't/shouldn't carry ANY current....More or less then just a point to point open ended non-current carrying wire used to ground metal objects such as gas tanks and fill fittings, drain plugs, open sea water valves etc., etc.

As such, not sure why the wire in question would be/need bolted to the block since the block(cyln head) is most likely to already have the neg battery post wired directly to the block somewhere's.......Unless, the block is the origin of the bonding wire.
