I am finally looking at painting the hull of my boat. I just do not have a clue what I need or where to start. I know that there are people here that have experience and knowledge that I do not, so I am asking for some help.

Re: Looking to paint my '78 Blue Fin

No problem. ;)

Is the boat aluminnum, fiberglass, plastic? Depending on what the finishe is on there now depends on the nest step.

Is the boat kept in the water or on a trailer? Fresh water or salt water?

Painting is very easy and the majority of the effort is in the prep.

On the lowest end of cost.... Rustoleum on the upper und are some of the high grade interlux paints.

Please read thru the restoration threads and you will see every level of the paint process.

The boat is aluminum and it is used only in freshwater and is kept on a trailer. I've been looking through the threads posted trying to find info regarding the painting process, but I am not really seeing anything. I may be too tired and just misisng the obvious.

Lighty sand it, prime any bare aluminum with zinc chromate, and roll and tip the paint. Search for roll and tip.

Re: Looking to paint my '78 Blue Fin

There was a fantastic aluminum boat restoration that was just completed by North Beach several days ago. Here's a link to the resto thread: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=286412 Look on pages 4-7. That basically covers where he painted his boat. I think there is a decent level of description and detail on what he did. It turned out fantastic! Hope this helps ya out! Gud luck!
