Hi guys just joined and I'm looking for some info. I just bought a 18 hp johnson outboard. The tag says FD-15F. I already had a 18hp johnson with tag FD-18D. I was told it was a 65, so I'm thinking this is a 61. What does the FD before the number stand for and what does the F or D after mean, or does it really matter that much. Thanks for any help you can give.

FD means it is an 18hp. Or a 15hp. Or a 20hp. The number followingthe FD narrows it down to specifics. You need to have a chart to decode it, otherwise it makes no sense.

CD is a 5.5hp
QD is a 10hp
RD is a 25-30-35-40 hp.
RX is a 28-33hp

See what I mean?
