I am going to try craft a leaning post for my CC and am thinking of using a nice soft vinyl for a covering. I am looking for a lined vinyl and will only need a couple yards. Anybody have a favorite supplier that will sell small amounts? I don't need 25 yards of the stuff.

Thanks for the help.

UFM82

http://www.yourautotrim.com They sell about any length you want. You want to get marine vinyl and UV thread.

I think it is only about $8 a linear yard, and that is about 60" wide.

If you are looking for an interesting texture they have a couple that look like diamond plate steel.

If you want padding look at the 1/2" or 1/4" thick foam with cloth backing. This behind the foam would give you a nice soft covering.

You can call them and ask for Jason

I've always had good luck with Rochford Supply

You can also poke around this site and especially the forum - tons of ideas.

Finally, check-out a local upholstery shop, especially one that does marine work. They might have a few scraps lying around that they'll let go real cheap.

Ed F,

Thanks for the new lead. Always looking for new leads, although with the success I have had with www.yourautotrim.com I will probably stick with them (like to be loyal to those who helped me)

Personal preference, but it helps to share info.

Don't forget to compare vinyl weight when comparing price. I think the heavy duty vinyl is 24 oz or better.

I noticed reciently that the smooth marine vinyl is more expensive than the grained vinyl. Don't know why, just seems to be the case.

Don't forget to post some pictures of your leaning post when its done. One of the best parts of reading about other peoples projects is seeing the final results!

Mark.

Chris1956,

Thanks, but when I went to my local BoatUS they could not tell me much. I guess you went to their web site.

http://www.yourautotrim.com is where I go. They have vinyl from a number of different manufacturers to pick from, UV resistant thread, welting, etc. I have ordered 1/2 yard with not problem, so I suspect they have no minimum.

I talk to Jason there. Lots of help to someone who doesn't know what he is doing (me)

Thanks guys. This is another reason why I like this board- lots of help when I need it. I'll try to post some pictures when I get the leaning post going.

I have the tools, I have the idea, I have the money. Time is the ultimate commodity. That I don't have. LOL

2/5/05- I used yourautotrim.com. They were EXCELLENT to deal with and my order was at my house two days after I ordered my stuff. Super service. Thanks all

UFM82
