New distributor almost in. I forgot to bring a long screwdriver to rotate the oil pump, so one more trip. I Also need wires with 90 degree ends. The current wires are long enough, but water would run down the insulation into the wire end and start corrosion. The Pertronix is much heavier built than the OEM one. It has a quality bearing system as well. The cap does stick up much higher, but I have lots of vertical room.
The Delco crab cap distributor could only turn a slight amount before the housing would run into the intake manifold. The Pertroix:
10-32 rotor screws, going into steel. Delco used 3.5-.6 which is similar to a 6-32. The screws were going into cast aluminum.
The cap use the clamp system, which is much better than the screw system used on the Delco.
The cap and rotor is about 1/3 the cost of the crab cap.
The unit I bought has a steel gear, same as the Delco that I pulled out. The cam has an iron drive gear, which is compatible with a steel dist. gear.
