Looking at a used tritoon

I've read a lot here and found the answers to a lot of my questions but couldn't find anything about this one. I'm looking at a 2007 25ft crest savannah lst tritoon with a yamaha 150. The owner has told me the center toon where the ski storage filled with water from rain thru the top and the fuel tank floated up out of its holder and they can't get it all the way back in because there is no access to the back of the toon. There is no water in it now since there is a bilge pump in it and he pumped the water out. How common of a problem is this i have never heard of it before and I have a lot of friends with tritoons. He says they put the tank as far back as they could and have just used it like that with no problems but it bothers me. Sorry for the long first post.

It would bother me too, knowing there's a possibility the tank is sitting on top of a bracket or bolt that's supposed to be securing it? Not saying that's the case, but I wouldn't be able to put that idea down until I was satisfied (somehow) everything is OK and not being torn up. -Al

I'm going back to look at it again tommorrow and test drive it. Its got a little over 300hrs on it and he has it priced $7000 below nada average retail. If everything checks out on the water i will probably just go ahead and get it. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and with the price he has on it i can afford to do a little work to it.

Just because he could not get it back in place does not mean it can not be put back in place. Go look at it with an objective eye. If everything else checks out ok I would not shy away from it especially at a discount. Get it as cheap as you can and then look for a way to properly secure the gas tank.

Just an off the wall thought....

If the tank floated out of the holder. Run it low on fuel, fill the toon with water and float it back into place. Then SECURE IT.

I am picturing this in my mind as the tank is too back in the tube and if it had fuel in it would be too heavy for them to easily move it around inside the tube. Float it and easily move it around.

Just don't ignore the issue. It'll likely bite your butt when you least expect it too down the road...

Well i went back and looked at it again today. I had to pass on it even at the price he had. There were just to many small things wrong that could turn into bigger problems. The gas tank was one i did think of trying to float it back into place if i purchased it. We took it out on the lake lake and the trim gauge didn't work properly so it was hard for me to tell where it was trimmed at on an unfamiliar boat also the steering felt kinda funny like there were hard spots in it. The prop was pretty chewed up from rocks and there were some pretty nasty gouges in the front of the toons one of them had some jb weld on it. Anyway he wanted $22,000.00 for it and nada put it close to 30 in avg. condition. I told him i would give $20,000 for it but he would not budge off the 22 so i walked away. It just didn't feel right to me so i'm sure i made a good decision.

If he has your number he'll prolly call you in a few day's ifn it don't sell, I would guess at that sell price he NEEDS the cash
