As of this morning we were only 5th in the country for the highest Gas Tax! By the end of the day we should be number 2 at 28 only behind New York at 32 cents... looks like we are going to get a 33% hike today.. <br />Give us another year or two and we are going take your title of having the highest gas tax.<br />Just a warning to you NYers.. were catching up fast for the lead!

New York has high taxes? humm I wonder if that has something to do with why the area I live in has something like 35 places going up for tax auction next month.

Hows come you got $5 gal gas then. What makes up the difference. The Canadian $$$ is 80% of the US $? It still does not add up.

Boomyal I'm paying .85 per liter - 3.8 x .85 = 3.23 per gal. X .77 (exchange rate = 2.48 Gal.<br /><br />But, what gets me is we pay the fuel tax (I don't know what it is) then we pay 7% GST. Most provinces pay around 15% GST. And Alberta produces much fuel! The other part is the natural resources belong to the people -- so anyplace they put a well the land owner gets a one time payment for the footprint of the well. The government gets $$'s for each barrel taken -- oil companies getting record profits as the charge per barrel hasn't changed for years; government with big surplus from oil/gas revenue AND the owners of the resource (us) pay record prices at the pump.

too bad most of the marina's allso tax the gas for road projects,I heard somewhere that you can get a refund for the tax that was included in the price of gas,why tax boaters for road projects?

Yup, but I live in lewis county and there is nothing here so I have to shop in either Oneida or Jefferson counties. Lately we have been choosing Jefferson. Either way it's $10 or more in gas to get to the nearest WallyWorld.

That's me! Oneida County. Only a few miles inside though and Madison County is right next door. And now that the Indians will be paying property taxes on their big casino, gas stations and other properties, I'm expecting mine to go down....just as soon as hell freezes over anyway.

You folks out in Wa can thank Tim Eyeman for that.<br /><br />After he managed to get all the tab revenue eliminated, they decimated public transportation. You can't cut out revenue without cutting spending, and they were spending that money on something. Now, with more cars on the road than ever, and already suffering from gridlock, they need more and bigger roads, and they cost money.<br /><br />Voila! gas tax rises. Surprise!!!
