I removed my steering cable, i guess it had a bunch of crud inside of it making it hard to steer. It was fairly easy to pull out, probably not the original cable and replaced before. I think the previous owner replaced it with a cable that was a little too short because the rack on the rack and pinion is almost vertical, it obstructs the glove box compartment assembly and is probably why the previous owner had removed it. it has a 15’ steering cable right now and i want to order a 17’ cable with the intention of getting the rack horizontal so i can install the glove box compartment assembly and cut a hole for the marine stereo i got a couple of years ago. My concern is if by adding a couple of feet to the cable would this affect the steering in any way. How is the rack on a rack and pinion steering system normally positioned vertical, horizontal, maybe diagonally?
