Best friends, Fishing Buddies, Old friends, Family we choose ourselves. What ever you want to call them. Do ya have one, maybe two, people you have known forever, or as long as you care to remember. I got a buddy, met in our sophomore year of High School (Almost 30 years Ago) been through EVERYTHING together. Haven’t lived in the same state for 12 years now (separated by 650 miles) but still consider each other best friends. When we get together be it after a month or a year seems as if no time has passed. Am going up to visit family this week end and will stay at his place, not that there's no room at the families, cause they are all on me to stay with them. Just prefer to stay there. I guess it’s the time of the year, just wondering how many others are blesses with this type of friendship.

Had my buddy Chuck since 1971, 5th grade. Still do everything together, at least everything his wife will let us.

Got a couple, do ex BIL(s) count, if so 4. We try to get together every year. The closest is 800 mi farthest 1200. One is my friendly enemy -- ask him his opinion and he gives what he thinks! If he thinks your actions are wrong - he tells you; we don't always agree, but a better friend you can't find! He worked on several project for me as contract programmer, I'd try to get him whenever I had a tough project. We have remained friends and usually schedule a week in the back woods fishing, hiking and bugging each other.

As you can tell I value him -- we talk just about weekly; others, every month or two.

Re: Long Time Friends?

Fortunately, in one way, unfortunately in another, I've never spent more than 3 or 4 years in any one place my whole life. So... I never got the time to get real close to anybody. The only friends I have are the ones I meet where ever I happen to be. Except for one and I keep her with me where ever I go. :D

Cool JB
If people are honest this could turn into the longest thread ever on iboats.
We met in 1959. I was in the first grade and him in the 2nd. In a little logging town of 75 people and we were the only two boys of the same age.
The school house had one room with grades 1-8 and one teacher.
Everything from A to Z from little boys to Adult we did together.
Even though I've only seen him once in the last 25 years when Mrs.Link and I were down in Vancouver visiting my kids.
If he were to call today and need say a 100K. I would do my best to get it for him and not ask "why or what for" or expect it to be paid back.
In my will I have also put his name and contact numbers so that long after Im gone if Mrs.Link ever needs help she has someone to turn to.

My best friends date back to grade 3. Theres about 8 of us who have managed to stay in close contact and bridge distance gaps for 3 decades. One of them will inherit my collector cars if I die before him. I have another buddy who I have not known nearly as long, but he is equally as good a friend.

Which reminds me...I think I'll make a few phone calls.

Re: Long Time Friends?

I met mine during my senior year of high school, march 1988, right after we moved to a new town. I married her in 1990.

My second I met the fall before that in school. He has been my best friend and brother since then. We are only 250 miles apart now but only get together 2 times a year or so.

Now I have 4 great friends I could call brothers. We have been put together through our job, and became brothers through the times we get through together. I wwould and have on many occasions placed my life in their hands, and placed my life before theirs. I would walk into He!! with any one of them, and know they wouyld bring me back. In fact I have on occasion done just that or so it would seem.

Re: Long Time Friends?

I've known mine since kindergarten. It's funny how well we get along...we're both interested in EXACTLY the same things. He lives about 110 miles away now, but we still go back and forth at a moments notice. I have him to blame for buying a boat.

I had another but I lost her a little over a year ago in a motorcycle accident. I thought I saw her in a store the other day, as I was on my way over to say hi I thought "oh s***, she's dead!" :(

Met my best friend at age 14 in 1976. Married her 8 years later.

Met my best buddy in high school, although our lives are seperated by miles, we keep in contact regularly and visit whenever possible. Similar to LT, it's like no time has passed when we finally get together again and as a bonus, his partner and my partner are best friends also.

My father always said, a good buddy listens without judgement.

My best friend, fishing and boating buddie, told me about Iboats. Though, he naver comes here unless for parts. I've known him for 15 years and because I never had a brother I have my boys call him uncle. He lives in orlando. The unique thing about our relationship is that while I was in the navy I was stationed where he grew up ( gulfport ,MS) for awhile. I went back with him and met his family and we had a grtat time reminising (sp) about things we done and places we use to go and so forth. We did alot of fishing and camping down here and made lots of stupid human tricks as well in the process.

Met my best friend in the rice paddies of south viet nam in 1965. But sorry to say I lost him last summer to a lung illness that I still don't know what it was. We did everything together and I miss him a bunch at this time of the year.
I won't be depressed about it though because he would be the first to say Life goes on.

Re: Long Time Friends?

I once had three very close friends dating back from my childhood, i lost Kevin in the Falklands campaign, Derek suffered an aneurysm on his way into work and died shortly thereafter, Bob lives in London, he's a lorry driver for the Sainsbury chain of supermarkets, Bob came over for a vacation in the summer of 2004, he's planning to visit again in the coming summer.
I have made a couple of the dearest friends a man could ever ask for since coming to America, one is my lovely wife for the past 18 years, the other is, you folks here know him as Elmer Fudge.

Since i happen to be a very superstitious kind of fellow, this will have to be my last post ever. There is a perfectly reasonable explanation for my making this most abrupt and puzzleing decision, however i bid you all farewell and many many happy boating seasons into the future. :)

Some say that the check is in the mail, i say that the clue is in the post ;)

I have a freind from about 15 years ago. That doesn't seem that long except I'm only 31 so....... We were enemies ar first. Lots of hard fights. Later we became friends. He lives about 300 miles from me now. He has moved all over and we still keep in touch. Once or twice a year he comes back to my area to visit. He usually stays at my house instead of his Moms. I have nother that we met at work. We both signed up for the police academy at the same time then too. Weve been good friends since.

Re: Long Time Friends?

Got quite a few long timers here.. Some 've known since kindergarden, 30 years ago..(that's a scary thought) Some I've known since the day I was born.. Some not so long, but might as well be longtimers...

Weddings.. Funerals.. BBQs.. Birthdays.. And If I had a nickel for everytime I helped somebody move.............I'd have alot of nickels, lemme tell ya!...

Now some would say my bud Kevin and I share the same brain... And it's probably true...

Kevin and I been Buds for near 20 years.... He moved to Texas bout a year and a half ago... Lives just on the outskirts on the north side of Dallas... He got a great job offer there and could'nt pass it up..

Double edge sword really.. You're glad too see your friend's sucess, but at the same time it's definately a little boaring without him and his family around.. We still talk about once a week, and probably always will..

Kev flew in a couple months back and wanted to fish, but the windy weather gods kinda put a damper on the trip.. Still had a good time tho terorizing the local eating establishments with the old gang... :D

Guess I'm going to have to take a trip to Texas one of these days... (thats gonna be a long drive)
