Over 150+ grades of SS on the market today.Surprising that stainless hardware doesn't hold up. I wasn't aware there were differing grades. Do you boat in the salt? My boat has been crabbing a lot and the galvanized bolts are badly corroded while the stainless look fine.
In a marine environment, use 316 Stainless steel hardware or go home....anything else will rust and fail over time
Electro-plated Zinc is useless in an marine environments.
Hot dipped (galvanize) is only half step above.
IMHO, Either material has a place in a boat.
Not sure why one would use a bolt designed to "commit suicide" in the presence of dissimilar metals to begin with
The four, 3/4" mounting bolts holding my outboard on the transom are 316 Stainless steel. 20+ years old and still look like new
