Locking the engine to steer with rudder

I have a 1983 Mercury 9.8 mounted ot my sailboat. I want to steer using the rudder and stop the engine from turning side to side....<br /><br />Any suggestions

Evening Vaccfam,<br />No real problem. You could get a fancy alloy or S/S bracket welded up to lock your throttle arm into position or do it on the cheap & use two pieces of line. :cool: Which way you go is your choice but make sure that you can quickly revert to manual engine steering because you will not control the sailboat well at slow speed or in reverse using your rudder. ;) Make sure that the throttle friction control is working OK otherwise <br />you are going to holding the throttle open when using the OB.<br />Regards,<br />Peter.

Peterbo3 - Thank you for your input. I was thinking of something more permenant but you raise a good point about control at slow speeds.
