Re: Living life on your own terms

From my desk, I have more jobs than qualified people, the pendulum swings both ways I guess. The Michigan market is one thing, but the jobs I have are all over the US, so all the folks that left Michigan when the auto's finally collapsed, really have little interest in coming back for another beating.

Interesting observation:
GM is bringing all of it's I.T. from HP/India back here to Detroit, and they are hiring every able bodied person they can. I have yet to see a "successful" off-shore program, seems long term they all fail. So in the end what did the executives learn? IMO not much, they are too worried about the next earnings report to think past that.

I'm seeing this happen over and over more and more. Can anyone here really tell us that they enjoy talking with "Tomas" from the Middle East when their toaster breaks? I really do think there will be a big surge in the US jobs market. The question is are we training our young one's to take advantage of this? My opinion is no.

Which is why I work hard to not darken the doorsteps of companies like Walmart, Target, Harbor Freight, etc.
My work is a 5 minute walk from the corporate headquarters of Harbor Freight and I talk with a number of them as we share the same lunch places. The ones I have spoken to like working there.
