My boat came with a combination washdown/livewell pump. I never use the washdown since I boat strictly in salt water and I can't see spraying saltwater all over everything. I think I have thrown the lever over to washdown maybe twice in the 10 years I have had the boat.
Anyway the pump just went out so I am looking to replace it. The one I had was a 3.4 gpm pump. Similar pumps I have come across on the internet searches I have done run around $130-$160. Don't get me wrong I am not being cheap just wondering those little Rule red & white livewell pumps cost 1/3 as much and claim to put out 500-800 GPH which if my calculations are correct is a hell of a lot more than 3.4 GPM. Just wondering are those little pumps really more powerful than the washdown pump? What am I missing here?
I'm not even sure one of those cheaper pumps would work with my setup anyway. I think the washdown pump was self priming.
