I currently have a livewell, however it runs off of an airator, I am putting in a system that runs constantly and drains through an elevated drain pipe, at the same time I am installing a raw water washdown.

I would like to put in one below the waterline thru hull and do one of two things... ideally, I would tee off the fitting, run to one pump for the livewell and one for the washdown if that is possible to have them share a thru-hull, if not I am wondering if it would be possible to use the same pump, tee after the pump and run one to the hose outlet with a sealed cap and one to the livewell.

OR worst case do I need two thru hulls below the waterline?

THANKS!!!

Re: Livewell/Washdown Install Question

I have a pretty tight lid on mine so I've never had any issues with it leaking.

You didn't say what type of boat you have. One thing to think about is,how much your new to be installed wsh down pump will be running. They are not cheap, and they are not a full time running pump but on deman pump.Look into one of those thru transom livewell pumps. They suck thur the transom, the discharge is feed thru a hose, that can feed your livewell at 1/3 the price. For the washdown pump, its a must on any fishing boat(being it 10' or 200') these days! And yes,you could do it both ways that you want to.Just use a 3/4" id pick up thru hull.

Re: Livewell/Washdown Install Question

I have an 89 20' Grady White WA.

I am planning on using this pump for the washdown http://www.boatersworld.com/webapp/...51&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&productId=326207

and something like this for the livewell:

http://www.boatersworld.com/webapp/...&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&productId=13181503

All in all not to bad, the washdown is $160 and the $90 for the livewell, I'd rather not share a pump for obvious reasons. Sounds like the 3/4 is the way to go, do i need to go through the bottom for that or the transom below the waterline... or does it matter?

If you go through the transom, you'll have no water to either system while running without some NJE (New Jersey Engineering) ...

For your washdown pump look here: www.rodnreel.com/dmarine/
For a livewell pump, check Wal Marts, there price is less then half then the one you were looking at.

Cool, Cool thanks again for all the help, any ideal location on the bottom for the thru hull? Or just where it's convenient for the plumbing.

Thats a good buy on the pump btw.

Sounds like the setup I have for the bait-well. Although it is on demand rather than always on.

Since we are not allowed to use live bait around here, I am thinking about moving the aerator to the live-well. Currently I have to fill it from the raw (salt) water wash-down. This works, but it would be nicer to be able to keep fresh aerated water circulating through the live-well every so often. The fish would be happier too, at least for the time being. ;)

The live-well is drained by an electric pump-out at the bottom of the well. This does a better job of keeping the water clean than the elevated drain pipe arrangement.

Both are fed by a single line from a thruhull on the transom that splits to the washdown pump and the aerator pump. Both pumps are SHURFLO Pro Blaster pumps.

I suppose you could split the line after the pump as well.
