I am trying really hard to stay out of this - some arguments that have been mentioned here could easily be turned around and used against you.
Whitehouse had the best take on it. Who was here 6,000 or 6,000,000 years ago to tell us? Where is the control group to test theories against? The very nature of a scientific proof precludes anyone from being able to do more than give theories. There is enough twistable "evidence" on all sides to give the other side ammunition.
But, what was, was, and what is, is. What ever you believe in, it will take faith to believe that, because science can not prove it with science.
