No serial number on drive, I am replaceing shift cable and am not sure what serial group this drive falls under. HIN labels boat as a '79.

It's a MC-1 drive. Lots of ID info in the stickies at the top of the forum.

You will probably find the shift cable screws into the front of the bellhousing. That is the old style cable, you should install the new style cable. Works much better.

Thanks Don. old cable melted against Y pipe, but do you mean "new cable" as in Alpha Gen II or do you mean most recent superceded part number for the MC1 Drive?

The Gen II cable is the same as the older Alpha cables and can be used in place of the old style cables.
This shows how the old and new style cable mount in the bellhousing.

To use the new style cable, you need to tap the threaded hole out with a special tap, and use an an OEM cable, not an aftermarket. Well worth the extra few bucks, plus they last longer because of the teflon cable. If they keep impellers in them so they don't melt.
