I'm trying to source materials for my upcoming redesign/rebuild of a 15' tinny. Yes, that's right, I'VE GOT REEVITS! I'm not surprised that finding quality plywood is a problem. I would prefer to buy locally and the best I can find is BCX. I would have liked to have ACX. What is the difference and will this hold up for deck, console and storage boxes? What I have found is Canadian wood not off-shore carp.

Re: Limited plywood supply

The difference is in the quality of the finish of the outside face. Outer veneer with Grad A is sanded and finished to better quality than grade B. Also the knots are allowed in outer veneer B but not in A (and in C more than B). I assume you will cover the wood with fiberglass anyway; if this is the case it wouldn’t make any difference.

As of "will this hold up for deck, console and storage boxes?" This will depend on how well you fiberglassed the wood and protect it from the elements. Both are exterior grade. Done right, both will hold just fine. I don't see any advantage – in your specific application – for the ACX that makes it more superior to BCX in terms of durability and resistance to weather elements
