They get old and crack, or something chews a hole in them (don't laugh, it happens). Replacing them every 5-6 years prevents expensive problems. The bellows on those drives can be replaced in about 30-45 minutes after the drive is removed.

One more quick question. Do you have to pull the gimble bearing to do the bellows? Thank You.

Thanks for the info guys. I ordered both Bellows and the clamps. I hope that's the cause, and even if it isn't that rubber is 10 years old now, can't hurt. I'm pulling the drive anyway, rather have the parts on hand.

Something else to check before you spend $$
Flashlight,mirror.
Under the motor and at the bottom of the exhaust tubes.There is an o-ring.
Look at the seal around the down tube.
You have a parts diagram?

Just wanted to thank you all and give a status. I just got around to replacement of both bellows this weekend, got out on the water today. Flawless, no water at all in the hull!
