I am told that my lightwin 3 horse has a Reed valve problem. I am not to sure exactly what it is but here is what happens. It will go for a ways when the engine is cold and eventually shut off then as soon as it shuts off i can start it up with a pull and go for a short distance and so on. I do not know where I could get reed valves for this, I was not able to find any on this website or do I know how I would go about changing the reed valves, if I could get some direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Lightwin Reed Valve problem?

First off, you do not have a reed valve problem. It is likely running out of gas in the carburetor bowl. First make sure the motor is not overheating, then check that the gas cap vent is working and the filter in the bottom of the tank is not clogged. You can check by disconnecting the fuel line at the carb and making sure that a healthy stream comes out.
