I bought a used boat 2 years ago. I removed the old boat registration stickers and put the new ones on. The boat is white and you can still see the outline of the old registration. Any ideas on how to get rid of this?

Re: Lettering Removal

Welcome to iboat Dry Dock.

This has been a problem for years....your best bet is to remove all the stickers and use some mild buffing compound (3M Finesse) is good. And buff the area well. Most likely the area around the letters has faded but of course where the old letters were has not. It can be very tuff if not impossible to get it to match up perfect, but buffing it will help considerablly.

Ayuh,... That's the Unfaded part of the hull....

You'll have to wet sand, 'n buff ALL the rest of the hull to match...

IMO
I would always wipe it with acetone first to get the glue off
Then decide how aggressive in need to get
Start with the least aggressive first "finesse" would be good
If that does not work go to light compound (3m)
If that does not work go to heavy compound (3M)
If that does not work go to sanding
After you find the least aggressive material to use then you have to repeat process in reverse
And wax at the end

IMO
