Leg oil seal

I have a 9.9 '98 Evinrude, and a few weeks ago I got fishing line in the prop and split the seal. It didn't seem to leak too bad when I ran it in a garbage can, and it doesn't leak at all, when it's on the sawhorse in the shed. I want to use it this weekend for some fishing, but am I taking too much of a chance by doing that? I appreciate any replies.

Dan

Re: Leg oil seal

Try removing just the vent screw, and inserting a pipecleaner, using it like a diptick. You can get a good indicatation of the lube's condition. Go back with a new vent screw gasket tho (wouldn't want to CAUSE a problem ).
