Bought my 1st boat about 8 years ago(03 bayliner 175:redface:)
Was pulling it out of the water from our maden voyage and heard this grinding, scraping noise:eek: and felt alot of vibration in my truck:eek:..... Yeah, I forgot to trim:redface:
Left a nice gouge in the boat ramp but no damage to lower unit.

This was my 3rd incident with that boat. I also forgot drain plug once, and forgot to swing trailer jackstand up before towing.... Yeah, I know, I'm a wreck. If you see a 230 Sea Era around Tampa bay you might want to head the other way.;)

Re: leaving my mark...

eeek! well glad there was no damage. i can almost imagine eventually i think every one will forget the plug once, most the time boat still on trailer and you can pull forward 5 feet and put it in no damage done [i've done that before] however 3 years ago my cousin took his boat out and was driving away from the docks and people were staring at him oddly, and he couldnt figure it out. 5 minuites later he looks down and theres 16 inches of water in the boat he didnt even feel it raiseing up his legs. grabs a bobber and shoves it in the hole beaches boat while bilge runs it's *** off.

when i had my little 17 foot tri-hull i would put a clip on the plug and clip it to my rear view mirror so when i backed down the ramp i'd see it, needless to say i never forget it there. however my new boat requires a brass plug and i put that in my ash tray since i dont smoke.

sometimes lifes little moments make you forget the most important things you need to remember.

I don't think there's many here who haven't drug the motor up the ramp at least one time bro.

Well maybe not the motor, that would be another issue.

One Saturday evening I reversed the boat and towcar into the driveway with the intention of going out the next day. My eldest son asked if he could use the car to go to the station and pick up a friend. Forgetting about the boat still attached, I just threw him the keys. He didn't realise the boat was still attached and drove down the driveway... part of the way. We heard a loud bang and scraping noise... ran outside and yep the motor was trimmed down - as the car entered the road it created enough of an angle to belt the skeg into the concrete. Believe it or not there was hardly any damage and a quick smoothing of the scrape marks and a respray had the skeg virtually like new.

I came very close to re-joining the no-plug club this weekend; launching a boat that I seldom launch and don't have a "routine" for.

Oh yeah a personal favorite,
Wife dumped me in the drink "accidentally" once....check

Wife takes the boat off the trailer then I park the truck and trailer and she picks me up at the dock, first trip in a new to us boat with alot more bite, she comes in to pick me up and at the proper moment gives a little reverse while I jump at the proper moment into the boat perfect system right NO, I went from an 92 OMC 350 with a carb to a 2000 454 MPI with a Bravo III so wife hits reverse while I am airborne and the boat catches my front foot on the heel going the wrong way so I go ***** end over tea kettle and hit the water head first, upon resurfacing I was presented with a standing ovation from the ramp/dock crowd and my wife in tears....and no she wasn't upset about the whoops either

Re: leaving my mark...

Last summer I managed to put two boats in the water for the camp I work at, and promptly forgot to double check the 'pee' stream before leaving the ramp. Yup, you guessed it, I got to pay for two new waterpumps that week... And I was pretty worried about one of the motors.

Later, I decided to demonstrate how to roll a kayak. No big deal, or so I thought. When I came back up, for some reason I couldnt see, everything was a blur. Probably because my glasses were sitting on the bottom about 8 feet under me. We did LBDs (aka Lost Bather Drills - just a fancy way of saying you're searching the bottom for a dead body, or in this case a pair of glasses) for about half an hour searching the bottom before we gave up...

I have forgotten the plug once, started the outboard while it was still completely tilted up, and once tried to winch a boat onto the trailer that was still tied to the dock.

Re: leaving my mark...

Many years ago when I was 13-14 years old, we took a family boat ride on my second cousins Glastron (listed in my signature). Coming back to the dock to unload people, I tied the back cleat of the boat to the cleat on the dock like a helpful lad. Well turns out my cousin wanted to just dump the people off quick, then bring the boat back out to the mooring. I didn't realize that after the last person stepped off the boat he was going to take off as quickly as he did. He didn't realize I had a line on the back to a cleat on the dock.:D He thew the boat into gear and gunned it to get away from the dock before a wave pushed us. It was surprising to find that the cheap thin rope had enough strength to over-come the two lag bolts holding the plastic cleat in the dock with out breaking. My cousin was also surprised by that rope when it acted like an elastic band, and sling-shot the plastic cleat into his bare back :redface:

Why would you tie your trailer to the dock?

Way to go Ez, that takes the biscuit. What I want to know is what won, the dock or the winch? :D
