Im sure this has been disgused here but I cant find anything about it. I just got an aluminum boat and it has a couple small leaks, and its realy only two or three and no more. Feeling the need to go fishing anyway I slapped some epoxy in there and off I went. Ive never had an aluminum boat before and I see them all the time with no paint. I dont know how these guys stop leaks but I couldnt help but think a coat of truckbedliner wpould be a good way to stop and also prevent leaks. Ive seen this stuff used for alot of things and im sure someone here has had to try it at some point. I would like to know if anyone has heard of anyone doing this and if so how did it work out? Thanks.

Re: leaky aluminum

In General, Truck Bedliner is not a good solution for aluminum boats. It has a tendency to peel off and unless you use a light color makes your boat very hot. Bucking your rivets and using a product like Gluvit or Coat-It should remedy your problem. That's the generally accepted method for solving leaks in aluminum boats.

Paint and bedliner doesn't stop leaks, nor does caulking type goo... all they do is make more work for you when you decide to repair the leaks properly because you have to remove the junk, but don't take my word for it...

Replacing rivets in a riveted boat and welding a welded boat are your best fixes. Epoxy is second best, and all the rest are very temporary fixes that will come back to haunt you.

hahahahah leaky reevits!!!!! :p

Can't wait for oops to see this one...

Yes gluvit is good but just remember you have to paint it... it doesn't do well with UV exposure...
