I have a 1996 Stratos 285XL Pro that has been leaking. We checked all the fittings, etc. and resealed them. It still leaked. Finally, found that the boat was taking on water when coming out of the hole. The seal between the cap and body of the boat (under the rub rail) was allowing water in when the stern dug in. We took off the rub rail and resealed the entire cap. After replacing the rub rail it did not leak anymore.

I have seen a Bullet with the same problem. Is this comon among bass boats?

What did you use to seal the two pieces together- I'll need to seal my stratos when the rebuild is done - Mike

We took the bumper rail off and applied a bead of silicone between the top cap and bottom hull. Then we replaced the bumper rail and siliconed it (top and bottom). Now the boat does not take on any water at all.

By the way...I didn't mention that the top and bottom are still screwed together (under the rubrail).
