After completing the restoration of my Chris Craft 186 Scorpion Bowrider and enjoying it all summer, i got severe 2-fotitis. I Wanted something to be able to take the family out for a couple of nights and a new Winter project.

There are alot less boats fore sale here in Sweden and prices are much higher than in the US, but eventuallt I found a Larson 250 Hampton 1997 5,7 alpha really cheep with water intrusion in the Engine due to rusted out mainfold.

The plan is to pull the engine, restore it, put it back in and then use the time that is left (before the season starts) to make it more comfortable (Diesel heater, reupholster the interior, new table etc. new canvas etc...)

The Engine is really resisting, it does not want to be pulled. Snapped 2/4 screws holding the front Engine mounts. Rear bolts put up a fight an took part of the bushing with it.

Pulled the outdrive yesterday, the drive seems to be in good condition.

However, some PO or mechanic has used a screwdriver in the wrong place when removing the drive, and have chipped the housing. It was fixed with some kind of sealant.

What is the best way to fix this? chemical metal? epoxy filler? Dont really want to remove it and send it out to get welded.

Going to pull the Engine on Saturday...

Engine is now completely disconnected and almost ready to pull out. Removed starboard riser yesterday and it looked pretty much like I expected...

So I guess I need a longblock... The engine is rebuildable, but I don't have time to restore every nut and bolt and have started my quest to find a good US supplier of remanufactured longblocks.

I have started a mail conversation with Raul at Rapido Marine, they seem to have a good reputation and Raul has been quick to respond up until now. I guess something must have happened cause he said he would be back with a quote for the parts I need (besides the engine) this Wednesday, I sent a little reminder yesterday but still no response. I?ll try calling them later today.

I know it?s not exactly unusual to wait longer than expected sometimes, I?m shure I make people wait for my answeres sometimes, It?s just that when you are supposed to transfer $3000+ dollars to a Company on the other side of the planet you want to feel like they will deliver...

Also checked with Michigan Motorz, but both their engines and shipping are more expensive than Rapido Marine, so I guess I will just have to wait for an answere from Raul at Rapido Marine.

Do you think you have a rotten transom and/or deck inyour boat? Listen to the difference in sound when knocking on hard vs. soft area.

So, you?ve done the knock test and suspect that your transom is a bit soft... You get your screwdriver to just try and poke at it, and your heart sinks...

Continuing to restore my Larson 250 Hamton. So far the broken engine has been removed, drive and gimball removed. I have sinve restored the gimbal and changed bellows, bearings and seals including the steering pin. The Rotted transom has been repaired with epoxy and glass fiber matt and the whole engine bay has been redone with epoxy reinforcements and new paint. The gimbal has then been fitted again along with the new engine (5,7 Merc). Ledlights have also been fitted, next project is to install a diesel heater.

The camera/iPhone battery unfortunately dies before I get a chance to finish the video. Regretfully filmed with my iPhone in vertical position.

The Canvas top on the boat was in good shape but did not have full standing height all the way so I?m building a rear bimini. The frame is made up by 3/4 inch thick walled Aluminium tubing and the plan is to bend it with the home made mandrel which matches the radius of the front bimini.

Regretfully filmed with my iPhone held vertically.

Navigation lights were totally dead when I got the boat, and it was time to sort it out. The cold weather is really a PITA when it comes to boat restoring as so many projects involve sealing, glueing and painting which is impossible when the temerature is below freezing.

So how do the DIY-bent bimini frame pipes look? It turned out pretty decent but it?s hard to tell before I get them on the boat...

Replaceing a couple of lightbulbs with LED:s to lower the power consumption.

Did you end up getting your new engine from Rapido? If so are you pleased with it?
