I just picked up this boat, I was told it was a 1959, and have found so much good information here, thanks all, i did see some one ask the age of the motor, can someone tell me what year and hp this is, SN# 25532, 18686, also I read some good tune up tips etc... however this is my problem, engin starts good, however it coughs or a cylinder does not get a spark every one in a wile, at idel and all speeds. and when trying to run it fast, it tries but seems to bog, or cough so it does not go all out. any help woud be great. after runing for a bit, it starts with one pull, and will never stops, unless i want it to, I tried to take the fly weel off to look at the coils, but could not get it off, after talking the big top nut off, it is presses on ?

I just went to tshasdaddy, top secret file, it had a link to jbjennings note, and it showed how to pull the fly wheel, thanks :)

Re: Lark issues,

on a motor that vintage, if it is not obvious, that they have been changed, i would replace points, condenser, coils, plug wires, clean and rebuild the carbs, and install a new impeller. after this and adjustments, you should have a motor that will run another 50 years. all the info is in the top secret file. manuals at outboardbooks.com

your spark loss is probably a bad coil or plug wire. cough is carb adjustments.

Re: Lark issues,

Agreed. Tune it up...get it running well and then run the hound out if it...they like regular use, and require only simple maintenance. Post back if you have probs.

Re: Lark issues,

That's a 1957 Lark - I have the same model and it's a great motor.

Re: Lark issues,

don't hijack another person's thread. It is bad manners and not likely to get you an answer. and you are looking for the points cam. Get one off a junk motor.

Re: Lark issues,

One of your pictures shows a reddish mark on the port side of the lower unit. If that is on oil stain, you should check the oil in the lower unit.
