So my bride wanted to move to Florida, then my daughter got pregnant so we are staying in Minnesota. We have been looking at lake places since winter. We made a few offers, we seriously pondered a few others. Earlier this week we found the perfect place in the right area. Made an offer for the full asking price, and waited. I just upped my bid $12,000 over asking price my final bid. Told my wife if we don't get it we are moving to a condo down by the airport to save time on my commute the heck with lake life.

Have heard about real estate bidding wars, hope some day when I sell folks will do that for our house.

All my grand and great grands are at least 2 hours away. Do wish they were closer sometimes

What became of the initial full-price offer :noidea:

No response or what did they say?

There was an escalator clause in our offer. Others bid over the asking price.

I've seen people running up those escalators, so I know that sort of thing can happen. Will COVID-19 soften the market up any in the coming months, you think?

Nope I can't wait to list our place Monday, let the bidding begin. Not a lot of places with 20 acres available.

Dunno' what all of Florida is like, but there are some spots that are like the Nashville area ... houses are on the market for less than a few days and offers are coming in at +10%. It's crazy honestly.

I told my wife we'd sell ours when the price hit double what we paid ... but I can't get anywhere near as nice a house at that price in the area :faint2:

My wife co-owned a 800 sf cabin on a 260 acre lake in central IA. MIL died recently so the sis's decided to sell the place. Two sis's wanted it. Sealed bids against a very low (25-30%) farm land appraiser's appraisal. Wife and another sis wanted to put it on the market to determine FMV. ...each sis gets 1/7 of the sale price. No go. One sis got a steal.

All fine by me. We've had our own place for 10 yrs. And for 10 yrs. I've gone to the sis's place to winterize and reopen in the spring. I've got better things to do.

Sold my house in Orange Park Florida in 2014, the buyers got into a bidding war. I personally took the first offer which was $5k over asking price. Had many offers way over asking price. Right after Hurricane Irma i had to gut and rebuild the house, then sold it. Just sold my house in Marysville, WA, got $6k over asking price. Again, I took the first offer i had, but had 4 offers on the house, all over asking price.

Prior to selling my house in Florida, I was renting it, couldnt sell it for what i owed until the hurricane. Markets are funny

Throwing all the chips in at 11:00 if I don't get it I will regret it. Funny thing is if it was not 20-25 minutes from my grandson I would have walked by now.

Funny story last summer I was on the lake with my son in law and daughter, we were cruising around the lake looking at places. I pointed at the house and said I could live on this lake if I lived in that house, and now I will be.

Same. We'd been trailering for 14 yrs, and often cruised past a place. "Boy, that would be nice". It is.

Also Mark, before we got our place I helped pull a long dock and Shore Station out each fall, and put them back each spring for 30+ yrs at the wife's/sis's place. That Shore Station was a man killer.

Now I've been pulling 40' of marine rail lift from the Mississippi. Deep end is 6-12" deep depending on river level. I built a small pontoon float/winch to get it up. Generally a cluster.

Then I found these guys. I have a two bag system that I inflate from shore. ...just an FYI. They design these for boat lifts, but mine works great. Made in MN. "Boat Lift Helper".
