Re: Lake George overnight anchoring?

If you ever camp on the Long Island group just beware that they have a Raccoon problem! Little beggars made off with my marshmallows before I noticed. I grew up just south of Lake George and like you said you can book 9 months in advance but the night the reservations open for the season people are trying like mad at 12:01 am to book the best spots.

Also bring a saw for firewood. All of the islands do not allow you to cut anything down but they always have large logs at each campsite that you can cut up for firewood. I only had a hatchet and it took forever. You can bring your own wood as long as you can prove that it was bought within 50 miles of LG. They are pretty serious about bugs..

Re: Lake George overnight anchoring?

I think you can probably anchor in Paradise for day use now, but not overnight. I think I know which marina you refer to, but you could send me a note when you get a chance, anderk4@rpi.edu will get to me, thanks. In thinking about the camping issue, you might want to consider camping at Rogers Rock state park. It is also at the north end of the lake, just north of the Hague, but its the only campground on the lake where you can get campsites on the mainland and also has a boat launch. So, at this park, you could get two sites for you and the other family and a free launch ramp in the park itself. Nice park with a decent beach, great views. You can buy fireword there. Sites for RR are reservable through the same system as the island sites. Just an FYI, in addition to the concerns mentioned by SDRIDE, there are many bears in the area. We were on an island site one year and woke to find a bear sleeping in a tree directly over the tent in an adjoing site, that was something to see.... Am planning to try and overnight in Red Rock next season too.
