lacking power

I just bought a 18' older boat equipped with a mercruiser 110hp, age unknown.
It starts fine and revs up when out of the water. When in water at about 2000rmp it starts to lose power and starts pinging which increases as I increase throttle. It has a Rochester 2BBL. I have checked plugs and they look OK, I changed fuel filter and checked fuel pump output and flow seems good.
Appreciate any thoughts you have.

Re: lacking power

Time to do a full tuneup. Points, condenser, cap, rotor along with your new plugs. You also need to set your point dwell, THEN set your idle timing and here is the important part, CHECK the ADVANCE timing as well to make sure the timing advances.
It would be a good idea to do a compression check as well. With poor compression the rest of the tuneup is a waste of time.
