Castaway,

"Darwinian Paradigm" :D :D :D That's a good one.

The relay idea is an excellent one. In essence, that is precisely what most auto makers do on their trailer towing packages.

The electronics onboard todays vehicles cannot handle voltage spikes and ground problems. We're talking milliamps and less than one volt for most elec's.

Hey BrianFD, just a word of caution! Even though all three are illegal in this state, (1) Following someone w/Highbeams on (2) Backwards mounted lights w/out covers (3) Pointing laser lights at motorists. I would use caution with that laser light. Consider the recent shootings of motorists, and the motorist behind you may be ARMED w/or/without his own laser sighting.

I remember once a bunch of cops doing a training exercise, stopped in to eat together. Wearing Swat Pants, and just tee shirts all sitting in one area. A youthful prankster began pointing his laser light around, which we all noticed about the same time on one officer's chest. You can just image the fright in his eyes, when we ALL DREW DOWN ON HIM, followed by claps and cheers from other customers that were preturbed by his prank.

Also consider, (I confess, I have also had backwards mounted lights on my pickup(s) and used them to get dim lights from highbeams in my rearview) as others have posted. This is dangerous to others (especially oncoming) as he is TEMPORARILY BLINDED. But as YOU posted and it can be true that Laser can cause PERMANENT DAMAGE in more than one way. A Permanently blinded driver is not a smart move to anyone on the highway.

On a smaller scale, an Officer stopping CastawayRay, might identify w/his frustration and let him go with a warning. I believe most Officers would take some type of action against a laser being pointed at moving vehicles. Just something to consider.

Just one of GodsBeast's

Duly noted, Godsbeast! I was, however, not being serious. Just one of those things we sometimes wish we could do.
