Knocking Sound 1990 Johnson 48 SPL

I don't hear it when it idles or when I'm flushing the motor but when I'm running in the water, fast or slow, there is a knocking from the motor that increases and decreases with rpm's. I noticed a sheen of oil/gas on the water as well. There also has been a thick oily matter coming from behind the prop as well as from under the cowling draining down the shaft. I saw a stream of smoke/steam from the bottom of the motor but I can't tell exactly where it comes from.

Afonman....maybe ya' otta park it and do a check over.<br /><br />Get compression readings on both cylinders. Do a spark test and check the engine for the right temp while running. Sounds like the engines trying to tell you something. Let us know what you find.
