I went today and picked up my bosses old King Fisher boat w/ 40hp Evinrude with the plans of borrowing it for the weekend and going fishing. Well it needs work and lots of it. He is trying to sell it but I think he is asking way too much. He wants $1000 for it but to me it would only be worth about $400. I think I will let him know how much work it actually needs Monday. The motor runs but the carb was gummed up, I took it off and cleaned it out and now the float is stuck closed I think I can fix it easily though. It looks like the transom is a little weak but I'll have to check it out a little better tomorrow. The side box is rotted out and needs cut out and either replace or just removed period. The floor seems to be in good condition, but the underside of the boat has been repaired and not that well (pics to come). Like I said before I think it's only worth $400 and he wants $1000, should I try to talk him down to my price or just give it back to him? Here are a few pics and they are not the best, I'll get more soon.

Re: King Fisher Project

hi tim.

if i may..........

do not get involved with a deal with your boss.

imho the boat is rot.

if you counter with a reasonable offer like 400......he will take it as a low ball, and you will insult him.

it seems like you already have done some work on the boat.

stop.

if you walk.......and something goes wrong.......you are on the hook.

dont buy it.

Well my boss has always trusted my judgement on this kind of stuff. I have fixed his sons truck a few times and even his 4-wheeler. I don't think he will be offended if I tell him what I would be comfortable paying for the boat.

Been looking at it this morning and I'm pretty sure that the majority of the boat is in decent shape. It defently needs the carb rebuilt and maybe a fuel pump on the motor. The transom isn't in the best shape but it would last til fall and then I could fix it during hunting season. I'll sit down with the boss Monday and discuss the condition and price of it.

Re: King Fisher Project

Well my boss accepted my offer of $400 on the boat today. Way I look at it is I can get the motor going fairly cheap and if I see that the hull is gonna be more of a headache than I thought, I can take the motor, trolling motor and trailer and use on a welded Jon boat. We'll see how it goes once I really start working on it though.

Re: King Fisher Project

Last week I ordered a rebuild kit for the carb and it came in Friday. I took the carb off today and rebuilt it, got it put back on and the motor fired up. Then the ignition switch started messing up so I went and bought a new one. The throttle control didn't seem to be working right so I pulled the control box apart and found a broken piece in there. I searched and search the internet this afternoon trying to find it with no luck. I'm gonna try gluing it back to gether and see if that may work for now. If not I may go talk to a friend of my brothers and see if he has a control box off an older boat that might work (he a pack rat). Once I get that fixed the boat should be reasy for the water, then I get to go jugging for catfish!!

Bingo I found the broken piece on another website. Apparently the control box isn't a 72 like the motor is. I ordered the part for an 83 control box and they look just alike. I feel a lot better about that than trying to fix the broke piece.
