Hey ppl.. Boat is an 87 bayliner contessa 2850 with 460/king cobra drive. I wanted to get at the raw water impeller, so thinking to make it easier to work on I threw a battery in the big dirty, hit the trim switch, aaaaaaand...... 'click'... 'click' yup, no movement of the drive.. did some quick searching/t-shooting, got lots of power, solenoid is the click, but pump motor is not turning.. sort of. I jumped 12v to the trim pump motor itself (direct to the connector with jumper wires) and i hear a high pitch whine, like the motor is stuck, or maybe just cant turn (?) Has anyone had a similar issue?

Most other electrical is working, some needed a jiggle of wires/connections, possibly have some bad ground issues as the trim tabs arn't working either.. the boat sat dormant on land for 4 years, (not covered either..) I'm assuming a few things are gona be sticking/corroded and require some 'persuasion' to come back to life..

Add on question; Is the drive trim pump/assy 'the same' across the board for all omc cobras 86-89?

On the trim solenoids.The connectors.
They get corroded and need to be cleaned.
If they click? They might not be making the circut.
Test light across the posts as you hit the switch.
Yes same pump and system.
The switches for the other stuff?? WD-40
The Bayliner dash switches can be taken apart and cleaned.
The trim tab switch isin't Bayliner but Bennet and not real cheap. So try the WD

ya, i've had to replace a set of trim tab switches in my last boat (bennett) about $80+tax.. ugh.. hoping I just have a bad wire issue. And I found a drive trim unit at my local boat/everything scrap yard.. (seriously, this place is crazy...I want to post a few pics, but keep getting an error..'file failed to upload' maybe pics too big?) I can grab it for $20! I checked on pricing for these things, I'm gona gamble the $20

yup.. Got my pump today, along with a few other bits an pieces.. and found more stuff I wana go back for tomorrow if the weather clears... A nice bomar hatch, some plastic vents for the hull (mine are trashed) and some larger trim tabs/cyls/pump. Whats great about this place is its basically a scrap metal yard, so most marine bits and pieces like I need are not worth much to them..heh heh.. $20 here, $30 there.. for things marine shops will charge BIG $$$ for.

I'm thinking ill be stripping this ol' dog down (boat i got the pump out of) as it looks all in pretty good shape, and after a winter it will be junk for sure.. I bet I could get everything I can unbolt from that for $50

Oh, i've seen a few stringer drives/partial assys around this place too.. if anyone needs something i can have a look next time I'm out...

Ontario actually, a boot an hour north of Toronto. That place is a 10 minute drive from my house, been going there for years. (Its been a wrecking yard/environmental disaster for decades as far as I know..) Cars/trucks, boats, building and house materials, tubs.. heh.. ya, I'm like a kid in a toy store in there :joyous:
