Kill switch help

My kill switch is the toggle kind where the lanyard attaches to the arm of the switch. Im assuming when in the down position its in the down position it lets the motor run. Im thinking the one of the back and yellow wires attach to the black yellow wire coming from the main harness and the other black yellow wire coming from the kill switch goes to the key switch. But the purple wire coming from the kill switch does it attach to the purple wire on the key switch? Does this sound correct? I dont wantvto fry anything. Boat is a 1995 mako duel console with a 1998 Johnson ocean pro 130.

Previous owner has cut the wires to the kill switch. Need to know if this is the correct way to hook them back up.

Talking about black/yellow I assume this is an OB. Which motor is it?

The kill switch should ground the magneto to kill the motor. Grounds blk/yel to black

The factory switch has 3 wires . 2 black with yellow stripe and a purple one. Im thinking one of the black&yellow wires from the switch attaches to the black &yellow from the main harness the the other from the kill switch goes to the key switch. Does the purple wire from the kill switch go to the purple on the key switch ?

I'm not finding a purple wire connection with a 2 cycle kill switch. Find it with the Tach lead, sorry I'm unable to clarify. Found other threads with 3 wires but they where blk/yel and black only.

I would not connect a purple to a ground, mainly because purple has always been 12V power.

Can you post a pic?

Looks like wiring isn't original and maybe a purple wire was used because that was just the color the PO had. Can you trace where the purple goes to?

Factory purple wire is listed as 12v wire according to factory color code.

My comment is from your comment about PO hacking the wiring, and the pic showing some tape. If the purple is original then I have nothing because I don't see how it would work on a kill switch. Maybe tracing where it goes may provide some insight

Perhaps the previous owner thought that 12 volts needs to be applied to get spark.-----Wrong.-----On this motor the magneto makes the spark.-----The 2 " m " terminals on the ignition switch are OPEN to run.----And CLOSED to stop the motor.

I dont know what the previous owner was thinking. But i have a hack job to figure out. Leaning towards just ordering an aftermarket kill switch and starting fresh instead of trying to figure out the original one. . Does the black/yellow wire (kill wire) need a ground to kill the motor or just a break in connection?

Ok so if i were to wire my black/yellow wires(2 of them) comingvfrom my kill switch to both m terminals on ignition switch and the purple wire (from the kill switch) to a ground. Would this not kill the motor when the switch was flipped?

1) forget the purple wire unless YOU figure out where its going and let us know

2) As racer said and I did in post 5, ground the blk/yel and motor dies
My guess from your pic, is the kill switch connects the 2 dark colored wires (not the purple) together when lanyard is pulled

I should refrain from posting advice when wires are involved.----Very hard to explain simple concepts to some posters.
