Hello, I'm in the middle of adjusting my shift cable's the lower is nice and smooth, but as I was testing the kill switch(S) I noticed the v-shaped one was'nt moving is there a spring or wire I missing? what forces movement? also another circle shaped sensor that works with reverse seems fine what is this one? I dont see any mention of a second switch on the shifting braket in the mercruiser manual. my boat is a 77 chappel mercruiser I/O

Re: kill switch help

The V shaped only moves and activates the interrupt switch when shifting out fw or rev while on load. The O one you pointed I think you mean the reverse lock for the outdrive.

Ayuh,... The load of the water against the Prop causes the shift switch to actuate...

The Reverse-lock keeps the outdrive from jumping Up, when throttled in Reverse...

Re: kill switch help

Here is a thread that explains how and why the shift interrupt system works. Once you understand that a little bit, it makes the rest of the job easier.

Do you have the OEM service manual, or one of those cheap aftermarket Seloc or Clymers manuals. If you have an aftermarket, no wonder you can't figure it out.
Here is a link to the OEM manual you can download for free if you need it.
