I just purchased a boat and it came with a Kiekhaefer motor serial number 1283413 and i was wondering if anyone could tell me what it is for i have had no luck I know its a four cylinder with twin carb Thanks for any help:]

I think you are missing a number Most have 8 numbers for serial number.

Nope, seven digits is all good - especially if it has Earl Carl's moniker on it.

As for ID'ing the motor, we'd need a bit more to go on. The serial number you gave dates it from about 1960. They had three 4-cylinder models at that time - the Merc 300, Merc 400 and Merc 500. We would need the model name off the face plate. I don't recall if they had the model number on the serial tag at that time or not. The block style would be stamped on the side of the block, near the fuel pump. It would either be a Thunderbolt or Super Thunderbolt. Carb numbers might help, too. They'd be KA-Something.

MARK 58A S

Thankyou very much i just spent about 500 dollars on the website and plan to do a full rebuild Ill post before and after pics and ill get my boat up on my page too and again Thankyou
