just purchased a model 243 with this trans control. have not had in water. but in checking everything out, the f/r control is locked. is there something that unlocks such as drive unit out of transport or has to be running. I did not want to force it. throttle lever moves fine. thanks for any input.

Ahhhh...someone else with this fine piece of engineering. I am not a mechanic, but my understanding is that you should not move the shift lever when the engine is not running. Try unhooking the cable and then try to move the shifter, or try it when she's running.

I disassembled mine last night. I have twin controls on my 293. My shifter was really tight...to the extent that my wife has trouble getting it in gear. It appears to be bad cables, although while I have it out I am going to clean and relubricate.
