Testing for what? No crank, no start, no stop?

it will not start and i just want to eliminate the key switch

Details, these boys need details.

Does it crank?
Nothing happens at all?
Any clicking noises?
Lights working?
Do you have a multi-meter?

Put a test light or voltmeter on the ignition terminal on the solenoid. Turn the key to START. No voltage says the main harness or key switch is the issue. If you read 12V the key switch is good and the solenoid is bad. Disconnect the main harness plug and check for corrosion. Clean the terminals and reconnect. Now try it.
