On the bottom of the keel my fiberglass boat there is a Keel section about 6 inches in length where the keel was shaved off.

It's down to the glass and water was leaking in alot of water.I have pulled the deck and intend to replace the floors. My question is how should i go about repairing the shaved keel.

Can i apply new glass to build it back up and then apply marine-tex and apply gelcoat? Or can i just build it up with marine tex

Thanks

Re: Keel repair advice

Marine Tex is an amazing product but I don't believe I'd use it for that project. The cost would be crazy to start with and in such a large volume it might not be the best choice.
Your thoughts on reglassing are on the money. Just do your prep work to the max and start from there. All of the underlaying glass / cloth must be completely dry. This may take up to a few weeks so don't get too impatient with it. Place some fans on it and forget about them for awhile. A moisture meter will be an invaluable tool in your situation.
There are tons of tutorials on the net on the proper way to glass so you're not alone in this world.
Take a lot of pics and keep us posted with your progress.
