Did the leak test tonight, certainly a few loose rivets. Also, about mid-hull there is a substantial amount of water leaking out of the keel plate. What do you guys make of this? Should this be alarming or will the gluvit take care of this?

Here is the link to my restore thread: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=541259&page=2&p=3713893#post3713893

Should I replace the rivets near the leaking areas on the keep plate?

Any help would be appreciated!

Why doesn't your resto thread have any pics?

About your keel leak:

Replace all known leaking rivets and run a bead of 5200 down the center of your keel seam from stem to stern on the inside of your hull, then do another leak test... then gluvit if all is well.

The thing about riveted keel leaks is, it's hard to tell where exactly the water is coming from because the water can and will run down to the low spot in the keel and then fill with water and leak out.

Those leaks are from the rivets. Gluvit properly applied will cure that. Now that you have performed some sort of leak test....... you have water inside the leaking areas trapped. It MUST be fully dried out before you apply the gluvit.

The underside of your hull is all one piece and the keel is riveted onto the hull. There is no seam inside to use 5200 on....... you will see and doing it on the outside would not yield any better results then the gluvit.

I would not replace those rivets but I would re-buck them prior to the gluvit application. No replacement rivet will be as tight or strong.

Thank you for your input jigin and bob.

Bob,

when re-bucking them, are we just talking a hammer on each side till it peens over more?
