Re: K&N spark arrestor

Merc didn't put them on because they didn't have too. When govt regs changed, they did. John's got a point, if the general build didn't change then you wil probably be safe adding it? Just get the ne that matches yur earlier motor inclluding the carb. It's only a check valve you know? Sorta controls how much crap goes into the carb for that carb. So by putting a check valve where there was none, you only keep the crap in your crank case longer?Could create back pressure? I guess I need to know why you think having a pvc is better?

I think the current setup is better and....yes...the cool looking K&N is probably a positive for the motor and the enviroment. The drop of in performance will probably not be noticable? See, decreased airflow means decreased performance. That is K&N's mantra but I just don't see how it can be less restrictive than the current one Merc has, hence your point when you posted? But, Same flow, less crap, GOOD!

Hey Auto, I thought the same thing as a Merc newbie, "man who gutted this PVC???" Made me think of gutting converters....I mean.....who would do something like that??? HEHEHE

Well we advanced the valve timinf 4 degrees for more vacuum and low end torque, that should help but it was more for the low end torque. The reason i really want to go with PCV is because th mess the vents make on the spark arrestor.

Yes, I know what you mean. Gets everywhere. What about another breather? Autozone has them. Looks just like the air cleaner. I guess those are not Marine Grade though? Any thoughts here anybody?
