Wow! Big job! Sure looks like a super finish was achieved. All that prep work shows. Not what I would choose in colors, but I like the pattern a lot. You must be exhausted after doing a job like that yourself, even with a helper or two. Just climbing the scaffolding / ladders would tire me!

Did you do anything special with lighting to see how the paint was going down as you worked or just relied on the ceiling lights? I'm always concerned with the lighting as I do finish work, be it a car, boat, interior latex or finish on hardwood floor. If I can't see what is happening, I can't tell if I'm screwing up!

Now some minimum-wage marina hand is going to come along and slap a few coats of anti-fouling bottom side paint with a roller on it......:D

Thats what I need to do with my Century. Just not on such a big scale. Thanks for the post. I bet your arm fell off after spraying and buffing that thing.

This is the kind of work I was referring to when I stated in another thread that a good paint job is far more about the painter than the products. Obviously you guys have some skills. Very impressive.
Kids, when you are being hired to paint million+ dollar sailing yachts you really have to know what you are doing. Millionaires did not get that way by giving their money away.

Outstanding work Doctor.

Jk..thanks :)

Mark42.. The colors are from Jeanneau .. inverted from there white and champagne.. :) ( not the colors I would choose as well ).
Was only one helper :) .. picking up trash..wipedowns and holding the hose and some masking ( no prep ).
Lighting was from flourescants and roof skylights. ( though being on the wall when spraying its just a cloud anyway lol ).
The bottom was professionaly done..sanded, Interprotect 2000 and Vivid bottom paint.

Proshadetree.. thank m8.. My arms are fine .. I do this kinda thing every day ( though one coat of paint took 45 mins..that kinda sucked lol ).

oops.. naw..I did the masking/tapeing/prep..basically everything..he was there to wipe down basically lol ( I love the masking part..its the wipedown 3 times that sucks LOL ).

drewpster.. thank you.. ( you are right btw in your post :) ) thats why I only give top line info/products ..thats all I know how to do..

The Paint/clear alone for this was over 3k btw ..not including everything else.

That is a very hard lead for a shade tree backyard hobby boating to follow.

Very nice work. Beautiful boat!

I compare that to parking a new Ferarri and showing the finish to the guy who has band-aided his 1993 Chevy Lumina. Both owner's are proud, both are happy but where the work was done, materials used and skill of the technician shows through.

You mentioned that the paint and clear cost over 3K and most boats owned and being patched up are not worth that kind of money.

Looks great!

Must be real nice to be able to spray something that hasn't been beat up yet.

Good post.

I actually wanted to show that BC/CC can be done ( I know its large scale..but if this can be done then other smaller projects can be done ( there have been questions about BC/CC here )).

The thing about BCCC is expense and time/labor intensive ! . .. Its Very expensive compaired to using other Marine grade paints.

I was hoping someone would chime to say this process was Crazy LOL. Sadly no one did .. but thats what direction I was given to do.

Would I do it differently ? .. erm..

Farrari to old ford falcon ( or malibu ) .. it depends on the finish ;) .

The question is then what paint would be easiest for a person like myself to replace a factory base clear system? I have sprayed it on many cars and love it compared to acrylic enamel of yesteryear. I realize however this isnt a car and I want a finish that will last. What I need to do is the red in my avatar.

When I do finish my project i was planning on using bc/cc or even single stage. I prefer Spies Hecker brand but that is my opinion. The paint job looks great. My feeling is if you are trailering your boat you dont need to worry about anti fouling paint so auto paint will do just fine. it has great uv protectants and looks great when finished.

I cant tell you the best BC/CC system..there are alot out there from what I gather ( I dont use the BC system unless its graphics ).

I can say for sure is to make your Surface the SAME color All the way around ( primer or precoat ) if your going BC.

Top line Thanes's have better coverage..better repairability then a BC system IMO..

You can roll/brush/spray almost anything after your prep...but can you have the security of repairability ?

Anything can be applied...but you would be looking into the NOW rather then the Later repair ( we all have them ).

Does the applicator care ? dunno..does the Santa bring christmas gifts that require batteries send a 24 pack of AAA's with the train ? or Is the Train required to have a recharge pack that is Hard to find or Obsolete ?

The Paint is the paint...its a system..has pros and cons..there is no Perfect paint for All considerations ( Aside from Gelcoat.. Gel is the Best coating for Boats..period hands down ).
