I think Mercruiser sells the 383 and endorses connecting it to a Alpha. I don't know why they didn't make it a factory option when they were doing the 5.0L/ 5.7L? Being you could get a 350 MPI Mag on an Alpha I'm sure you will be fine. I recall seeing a few old 454's with Alpha drives on 80's boats.

As for flooring it- It's the only way to pull a skiier out. Rope tight, engage drive and once it's engaged and moving go WOT. I'm at 18years and ours is still shifting/ running great with no complaints.

Was at lake this weekend and the darn boat ran so good I just hate to even consider it but if I could get it to "pop" up on plane and pick up maybe 15 mph I would be tempted.

Hmmm....how much is it to build a 383 vs buying a 5.7 and selling your 305? The 5.7 gets it done on these 20ish footers. I'm immediately up on plane and am hitting 55 alone and 53 loaded with the full 60 gallons of gas with a 17inch prop versus the official boat test of 58mph with Bravo 3 instead of my Bravo 1. I've still got some top end available with a different prop. Your Regal must weigh a lot I'm betting as well.

Well with the 305 220 hp Im doing 46-47 gps wot cruised at 29.1 gps at 3500 yesterday...lake flat calm 5 ppl in boat. Talked to Regal boats today and 350 mag (300 hp) only shows 53 mph. Definitely not worth the cost or hassel of disturbing a motor that runs perfect as is. I asked about trim tabs and they said they did not recommend it for the fastrack hull (stepped).
