Quick hello to everyone. Got myself a 1995 Sea Ray 180 with a 4.3 last week. Showroom condition and only 120 hours on it. Had it out for the first time this past weekend. So far so good. Found the bottom several times in the sandy shallows. Grr...

No pics yet, as a friend of mine is borrowing my camera. But they're coming, I swear.

Re: Just saying Hi

Thanks for the warm welcome...

I grew up around boats on freshwater lakes in Minnesota. But Florida is a bit new. We're not too affected by tides in the water where I was running aground. I was following channel markers and everything. It's just that not a whole lot of dredging happens nowadays.

Going to do some more exploring in the next few weeks/months in search of decent water for skiing. Not to mention the general fun of just loading a group of friends on the boat and burning a bunch of gas.

I've got the hole in the water ready to take all my money. And in that endeavour, I'm sure I'll be posting plenty of questions here.

welcome, i boat in Jacksonville, and the Daytona area. these areas have a pretty good tide difference. i strongly suggest a depth finder. the intracoastal, has some very narrow channels, and get out of it is very easy. and the bottom comes up very fast. the some sand bars are islands at low tide, and disappear at high tide. we spent Memorial Day moored of one of the beautiful sand bars at Ponce Inlet.

Well, I do have a depth sounder on it. It's just that in this little stretch of water, even though there's a channel marked, I believe it's been washed out. Needs to be dredged, but I don't think the tree huggers would allow it (plus the county probably doesn't have the money to do it). My solution is to just avoid the area from now on.

I had the same problem in the lake I frequent back in the day it was "new" to me. You see, i was in the wrong side of the markers!!!! But how the heck do you know when the markers are pretty much in the middle of the "perceived" water?

O.K. I apologize. I guess the picture of your neighbor's boat proves you have a boat. Sweet looking ride.

Yeah, snapping that picture without my neighbor in the frame proved to be pretty tough. Would have been easier to just photoshop him out. :D

Re: Just saying Hi

Sharp looking rig...good graphics. And Welcome... You should be pleased with that combo. Good brand with a good motor. Just got in off the water about two hours ago. Posted a new boat picture. What a great day. Disabled daughter loves to go fishing so we hit the waters around 9:00, netted up some greenbacks and hit the flats. Not more that a half hour and the line just screams. About 20 minutes later a small lemon shark about 2.5' surfaces. She was beside herself. :D Calm flat seas, a bit of diving off the stern and just enjoying the day.....life is good. :)

Very nice boat. Looks like the prior owner took care of her pretty good.
