I have tried the wet sanding and buffing cure for a faded boat a couple of times and it works just fine but here in Florida even that doesn't last more than a year or so.

I was wondering if anybody has ever tried after sanding and buffing using a coat of clearcoat instead of wax?

I suppose you can but I am not sure how durable it would be. There are varying opinions on here about using car finishes on boats. Plus if it starts to check or peel it might be difficult to repair. Have you considered painting with a good quality marine paint? Work not require any more prep than the clear coat.
